BG schools treasurer gets 1% merit pay increase; board member said more should have been awarded

The Bowling Green City Schools treasurer has been awarded merit pay.

At a special board of education meeting Tuesday, members spent nearly two hours in executive session discussing compensation of a district employee.

They unanimously granted merit pay of 1% to Cathy Schuller.

A lump sum of $1,236 will be added to her base salary effective Aug. 1, bringing her annual pay to $124,836.

“I don’t agree with the 1% increase,” said board member Tracy Hovest.

It should be comparable to her colleagues, she said.

“She deserved more than 1%,” Hovest said Wednesday. “It was not reflective of her evaluation. I thought the 1% was too low.”

The superintendent and treasurer evaluate other administrators, Hovest said. The range of merit pay for administrators was 2.5%-3% she said.

The board discussed other compensations but took no other action, she said.
