At a June board of education meeting, Bowling Green City Schools established a scholarship for seniors pursuing a degree in music or drama.
The board established the Patrick DeLuca Memorial Scholarship.
This fund has been established by Jack and Betty Whitacre for the purposes of awarding an annual scholarship in memory of their grandson Patrick DeLuca. The fund will account for donations and awards of the scholarship to an eligible senior pursuing higher education in the fields of band/music or drama.
Also at the meeing, the board:
• Learned Crim and Conneaut elementaries earned the Wood County Health Department’s Clean Plate Award for food safety knowledge and sanitation. Both also received the award last year, according to Tabitha Hiler-Young, director of food service.
• Recognized a number students in boys and girls track, boys tennis, baseball and lacrosse for their success in earning All NLL or All District honors.
• Learned district Treasurer Cathy Schuller earned an Ohio Auditor of State Award.
• Accepted the following donations: $200 for the Rex Memorial Scholarship from Hallie Beattie; $1,000 for 1Book BG, from Allen and Mary Green; $30 for Kiwanis Inspirational Educator, from the Kenwood Elementary PTO; $180 for the Happy Camper Award at Conneaut Elementary from Jeffrey Johnston; $2,000 to BGCS lunch program from the Hakel Family; $500 to 1Book BG from the Hakel Family; $100 to Jr. Bobcat Basics from the Fite/Waldron Family; school supplies valued at $150 for Kenwood Elementary from Sherrie Sparks and Family; school supplies via Staples Donation Kit fundraiser valued at $270 from BGCS Staples BG in care of Manager Daniel Smith and Justin Jones; and books and buckets valued at $150 for Crim Elementary from Kristen Vela.
Donations totalled $4,440.
