Howard “Ardy” Gonyer is running for a Bowling Green City Schools District Board of Education seat in the Nov. 7 general election.

Gonyer was born and raised in Bowling Green, and is a 2004 Bowling Green High School graduate. Gonyer worked in higher education for over 10 years, earning his doctorate in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University.

Gonyer is co-owner of Call of the Canyon Café and Catering in downtown and he is involved in numerous community organizations. Gonyer previously served as president of the Ohio College Personnel Association, president of the Bowling Green Area Community Bands and president of St. Mark’s Lutheran church council. Gonyer serves on the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation board and the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Foundation board.

Gonyer believes that maintaining and improving the quality of the local public schools is the top priority, not only for the benefit of current and future students, but also for the local economy, he said in a press release.

“Updating the current facilities to provide an excellent learning environment is the number one priority,” he said.

The board must improve its relationship with all stakeholders to create an open, honest line of communication with everyone in the district, Gonyer said.

Gonyer resides in Bowling Green with his wife, Megan, and can be reached at [email protected].
