A Toledo man was cited for discharging a firearm after the bullet went through a ceiling into the apartment above.
On Wednesday around 5 a.m., Bowling Green police were dispatched to the 300 block of East Merry Avenue for a report of a bullet that had gone through the floor of an apartment.
Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the complaints who said that they were in their spare room when they heard a loud noise.
The officer observed a hole through the floor, a metal chair and into the ceiling.
The residents said it came from the apartment directly below them, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.
Three officers spoke with the residents of the apartment that was directly below.
Henry Spires Jr., 53, said that he did not know of anything about a gun that had gone off.
An officer observed a hole in the ceiling of the apartment and it matched the location of the hole in the apartment above, according to the report.
When asked for a second time if he knew anything about what had happened, Spires changed said he was holding a bag of AR style bullets and one went off in the bag and shot straight up going into the other apartment.
A woman told officers that Spire was holding a rifle and attempting to disassemble it when it went off, according to the report.
The residence and Spire’s vehicle were search for the gun, but it was not found, according to the report.
After being told of the possible repercussions if the gun was not located, Spires advised that he had someone take the gun away from the residence. He told police that he was trying to put the firearm away in the case and it had gone off.
Spires was cited for discharging a firearm in city limits and obstructing official business.
Sally Schick, 48, of Bowling Green, was cited for obstructing official business.
