The Bowling Green State University men’s basketball program and head coach Todd Simon announced the signing of Trey Thomas on Thursday.

Thomas, a 6-foot guard, will join the Falcons after spending the last three seasons at Vanderbilt. A native of Durham, Ontario, Canada, Thomas appeared in 90 games for the Commodores, starting 17 games last season and averaging 23.1 minutes per game.

“Trey is a veteran guard that has played a lot of SEC minutes and is ready for a big role in our backcourt,” Simon said. “His ability to make shots, play in transition, and play in ball screens will be impactful for us. He fits our program on and off the court. Coming from a winning SEC program and having won a championship in high school is indicative of the type of winner he is. We are excited for the next two seasons with him.”

At Vanderbilt, Thomas averaged 5.9 points per game over his three seasons and shot 83 percent from the free throw line, including a mark of 94.1% during the 2022-23 campaign. He has 528 points during his SEC tenure, including 134 made threes. During this past season, he played in 33 games with 17 starts. He finished second on the team in threes made with 50, making at least one in 26 games and multiple in 15. Thomas tallied a season-high 16 points against Florida, going 4-of-5 from three-point range.

During the 2021-22 season, Thomas played in 32 games for Vanderbilt and logged six games with double-figure scoring outputs. He hit multiple three-pointers in 11 games and put up a career-high 17 points against Florida, making 5-of-7 from behind the arc. At the conclusion of the season, Thomas was named to the SEC Community Service Team.

As a freshman in 2020-21, Thomas was one of just two Commodores to play all 25 games and made three starts. He paced Vanderbilt and led all SEC freshmen in three-point percentage, shooting 39.8%, and finished second on the team in made threes with 39. His best game of the season came against Mississippi State, scoring 17 points with five triples and three assists.

Prior to arriving at Vanderbilt, Thomas was a four-year letterwinner at Crestwood Prep where he averaged 24.2 points per game, 5.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.9 steals as a senior. Thomas led his high school team to an OFSAA Championship and set the National Preparatory Association single-game scoring record with 52 points.

Thomas is the third player to sign with the Falcons this offseason, joining guard P.J. Edwards from UCF and center Jason Spurgin from Southern Utah.
