Ziems leads Bobcats to 7-0 win over Cougars

Bowling Green pitcher Zoe Ziems struck out nine, walked one, and allowed just three hits over seven innings in pitching the Bobcats to a 7-0 shutout victory over visiting Sylvania Southview Wednesday.

Ziems threw 91 pitches, including 61 strikes, while facing 25 batters. She also was proficient at the plate, going 4-for-4, with all four hits being doubles, and driving in three runs.

Samantha Trimpey, Sarah Konecny, Cassidy Kroegel, and Taylor Rothenbuhler had base hits for the Bobcats. Trimpey was also hit by a pitch, had a stolen base, and scored three runs.

For the Cougars, Rachel Katafiasz had a double and Zoey Jacobs and Paige DeShetler had base hits. Emma Jacobs took the loss in the circle, striking out seven, walking none, and allowing eight hits and seven runs, but only five were earned through six innings.

The Bobcats scored single runs in the bottom of the first and third innings, then exploded for two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.
