The Bowling Green City Schools Board of Education gave special recognition at its meeting Tuesday to a number of students.
Art teachers Noreen Overholt, Cindy Marso and Bethany Branum introduced the students who participated in the Youth Art Month and Young People’s Art Exhibits competition through the Ohio Art Education Association.
“Your Art and Your Voice” was this year’s theme for the YAM competition, Marso said.
Kiera Novinsky, an eighth grader at the middle school, was named a YPAE second place winner and YAM graphic design honorable mention.
“It’s a way of seeing art in a new way,” Marso said while holding up the butterfly art that earned Novinsky second place.
Kendall Crawford, in eighth grade at the middle school, won a YAM flag design honorable mention.
Leah Koester, an eighth grader at the middle school; Katelyn Haniford, a second grader at Kenwood Elementary; Emily Arnett, a second grader at Crim Elementary; and Jacob Schramm, a fifth grader at Crim Elementary, were all YAM exhibitors.
Crim Elementary fourth grader Addysan Adams was named YAM flag design second place winner while classmate Gage Moungie was named YAM graphic design second place winner.
Bowling Green High School ag teacher Stephanie Conway announced that Hunter Sockman and Drew Thomas will be awarded State FFA Degrees at this month’s convention.
Edison “Eddie” Eschedor placed 28th in State Ag Soils Evaluation CDE; Sockman, Eschedor and Cole Brokaw competed in Outdoor Power Equipment CDE; and Secretary Lindsay Eisel, Treasurer Peyton Bosworth and Reporter McKenzie “Kenzie” Spangenberg earned a state Gold rated officer books.
Conway also announced the BGHS FFA was in the top 30% in the state.
Orchestra Director Shawn Hudson announced two All-State Orchestra participants: Eli Metzger on violin and Robert Stygles on string bass.
Band Director Bruce Corrigan introduced saxophonist Aidan Peper as a member of the All-State Band. He is playing first chair saxophone.
