Updated: Finalists picked for BGCS superintendent

Bowling Green City Schools have picked three finalists for the position of superintendent.

Board of education members met Monday and Tuesday and interviewed seven candidates.

The finalists are Kim Brueck, director of Human Resources and Student Services for Green Local Schools; Ted Haselman, superintendent at Pike-Delta-York Local Schools; and Bruce Otley, operations director at Liberty-Benton Local Schools.

The board took into consideration the values and important attributes shared by the focus groups, said board President Ryan Myers

‘These three exemplified all of those traits in a passionate and enthusiastic way,” he said.

The board of education is inviting interested members of the community to meet each of the three finalists on Wednesday from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building in City Park.

Community members are urged, if possible, to stay and listen to all three finalists in order to provide feedback to the board.

The search has progressed through several stages, including the board’s building an ideal candidate profile, recruitment and marketing, community and staff focus groups, board screening, interviews and reference checking.

Sixteen applications were received and Cheryl W. Ryan, director of Board and Management Services with Ohio School Boards Association, confirmed on Friday the three finalists.

The school board will hold special meetings Thursday at 8:40 a.m. and 3:10 p.m. at the Wood County Public Library, and at 4:55 p.m. at the Bowling Green Middle School.

Members will immediately go into executive session at each of those times to consider the employment of a public employee.

The board hopes to make a decision and appointment in early May.

The district started its search after Superintendent Francis Scruci in January announced his intent to resign July 31.

Scruci was hired in April 2015 and replaced Ann McVey. He previously had been superintendent of the Gahanna-Jefferson City Schools in Franklin County.
