Prep Baseball Roundup: Bobcats fall in seventh, Otsego’s Bodde tosses no-hitter

SYLVANIA — Northview scored the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Bowling Green, 5-4, Wednesday, in Northern Lakes League baseball, even though BG outhit the Wildcats, 8-3.

BG scored in the second and third to take a 2-0 lead, but the Wildcats put up with three runs in the bottom of the third. The Bobcats replied with a run in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.

Northview scored in the fifth, BG scored a run in the sixth to tie again, setting up the Wildcats’ walk-off run in the seventh.

For the Bobcats, Brock Hastings was 2-for-3, Braden Loomis was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Brent Boston and Carter Earl hit doubles.

Alec Ross and Rhett Winger had base hits for BG and Loomis and Earl had stolen bases.

Nate Kress started on the mound for the Bobcats, striking out seven, walking three, and allowing three hits and four runs, but only one was charged to Kress thanks to three errors by the Bobcats.

Drake Joseph pitched 1.2 innings of relief, walking one and allowing one run, which was also not earned. Logan Neifer closed, walking one batter, facing four, and taking the loss.

Garrett Zimmerman started on the mound for the Wildcats, striking out six, walking four, allowing six hits and three runs through five innings.

Austin Padnode faced four batters in the sixth, allowing two hits and a run while getting two outs. Reliever Rowan McKarus got the win, striking out one in pitching 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball, facing the minimum four batters.

Josh Sprenger and Riley Ames hit triples for Northview and the Wildcats’ only other hit was a single by Alex Dupree. The Wildcats took advantage of five walks and left four on base to BG’s nine.

Otsego 10, Fostoria 0

FOSTORIA — Otsego sophomore Bodde Simon pitched a no-hitter as the Knights improved to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the Northern Buckeye Conference after a 10-0 win over Fostoria Wednesday.

Bodde struck out six and walked three, getting the win in five innings as the Knights scored five in the first, one in the second, and added two in the third and two in the fourth to win by mercy rule.

They only needed five hits, taking advantage of four errors and six walks.

Tucker Hunsberger was 2-for-2 for the Knights, scoring three times, Tyler O’Brien had a double, and Danny Shanahan and Devin Silva had base hits.
