Former Otsego coach Cheryl Jones hall of fame inductee

TONTOGANY — Former Otsego coach Cheryl Jones is being inducted into the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame as part of the 2023 class.

Jones led Otsego to a 485-320 record over a total of 33 years as head coach (1986-2019) with a league record of 330-160.

Her teams won 10 league championships, 16 sectional championships, four district titles (1992, 2009, 2014, and 2015), one regional championship (1992) and one state title (1992).

“She is known to produce players with high moral values, academic excellence, and good citizenship,” says an OHSVCA press release.

The 1992 team defeated Fairview Park Fairview in the Division III state semifinal and then defeated Springfield Kenton Ridge (25-2) in the state championship to finish 24-3.

Jones was born in Defiance to the late Wayne Jones and Joann Jones. She attended Ayersville High School, Defiance College and Bowling Green State University.

She has served her District 7 Coaches Association throughout her career as a volunteer and as an all-star coach.

“She is a great advocate for the Northwest District and the sport of volleyball. She has also played an integral part advocating for honest voting for player honors,” the press release continues.
