Waterville man arrested for stealing car in BG

A Waterville man has been arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle in Bowling Green.

On Friday at 10:18 p.m., Bowling Green police responded to the 100 block of North Summit Street where a 1996 Honda Accord had been reported stolen.

The owner provided the license number and told police the keys were inside a hidden compartment on the floor dash.

As the officer was walking toward his cruiser, he spotted the vehicle driving on North Summit and pulling into a driveway. The driver opened the door and the officer noted shotgun shells on the floor board, according to the Bowling Green Police Division report.

The man was identified as Alexander Brown, and the officer noted Brown had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol.

He told officers the car was his and he was coming from downtown.

Brown refused several requests to get out of the car. Officers eventually dragged him out of the vehicle and took him to the ground. Officers handcuffed his left arm, but he kept his right arm tucked underneath his stomach.

When officers were able to handcuff both hands, a search of Brown’s pockets uncovered a loaded .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, according to the report.

As he was taken to the ground, he hit his head on a cement slab and was taken to the hospital.

A field sobriety test was conducted at the hospital and Brown reportedly showed numerous indicators of impairment.

A warrant was obtained for a blood draw.

Brown, 35, was arrested for theft of a motor vehicle, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, OVI/refusal and state OVI (prior refusal in 20 years).

He was taken to jail. Bond has been set at $30,000.
