Prep Softball Roundup: Lake downs Rossford, Swanton

ROSSFORD — Lake softball improved to 9-1 overall and stayed unbeaten in the Northern Buckeye Conference at 3-0 with a 9-6 victory over Rossford (2-4, 2-0) Wednesday.

The Flyers broke a 6-6 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh and then Lake pitcher Kali Bedford held the Bulldogs scoreless in the bottom half for the Lake win.

Rossford outhit Lake, 11-9, but the Flyers took advantage of four Rossford errors.

Diem Isbell was 2-for-4 with a triple and RBI, Jessie Materni had two doubles and an RBI, and Bedford had two doubles and an RBI to lead the Flyers at the plate.

Ellie Rymers had a three-bagger and Sarah Patrick and Alivia King had base hits for Lake.

The Flyers had to come from behind as the Bulldogs took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first, and Rossford scored three more times in the fourth to go up, 5-4. Lake scored two and Rossford scored one run in the fifth.

In the circle, Bedford struck out four, walked none, and allowed six earned runs through seven innings. She threw 93 pitches, including 69 strikes, while facing 32 batters.

On Tuesday, the Flyers scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to walk off with a 14-4 non-league victory over visiting Swanton.

Bedford struck out four, walked one, allowed eight hits and two earned runs through six innings in earning a complete-game victory. This time she needed 85 pitches, 60 for strikes, in facing 30 batters.

Isbell was 2-for-4 with a home run, double, and three RBIs, Materni was 4-for-5 with two RBIs, Bedford was 2-for-4 with a double, sacrifice fly, and RBI, King was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Rymers was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Patrick had a double and RBI, and Jade Shinaver, Kylee Pietrzak, Addison Boehm, and Sophia Gruetter had base hits for the Flyers. Gruetter, Bedford, and Pietrzak reached after getting hit by a pitch.

The game was tied at 2-2 when Lake exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third and added one more in the fifth before their game winning rally in the sixth.

For Swanton, Taylor Forrest was 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, Lyla Carrizales was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Alexa Faber, Kyleigh Shinaver, and Alexis Ostrander had base hits.

Ostrander had a sacrifice and a stolen base, Leanna Wilson was hit by a pitch and Jordyn Ramirez and Shinaver had stolen bases. Ostrander took the loss in the circle.

Elmwood 15, Woodmore 1

BLOOMDALE — Elmwood softball continued its winning ways in the Northern Buckeye Conference, out hitting Woodmore 17-3 to down the visiting Wildcats, 15-1, Wednesday.

Kate Keiffer got the complete game win in the circle, striking out three, walking two, allowing three hits and one earned run through five innings in a mercy-ruled game. She threw 78 pitches, including 41 strikes, in facing 21 batters.

Marieta Garcia was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, Keiffer was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Abigail Allison was 3-for-4, Kennadie Plouck was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Dakota Rader-King was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Cara Frank was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Kynzie Science, an Owens Community College signee, had a home run, sacrifice fly, was hit by a pitch twice, and three RBIs, and Emaline Lee had a base hit for the Royals. Plouck was hit by a pitch twice and Keiffer once.

Cameran Quisno pitched for Woodmore, taking the loss, plus she had a double at the plate. Kelsey Kaylor and Izzy Helmke had base hits for the Wildcats.
