Prep Baseball Roundup: Eastwood 9-0 after defeating Fostoria, Clyde

FOSTORIA — Eastwood belted out 19 hits, including eight for extra bases, in routing Fostoria, 28-1, in a Northern Buckeye Conference game Wednesday.

The Eagles scored four runs in the first, two in the second, 12 in the third, one in the fourth and nine in the fifth to stay undefeated at 9-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.

On the mound, Kadyn Donnell pitched a complete game two-hitter, striking out 10, walking one, and allowing one earned run. He threw 64 pitches through five innings, striking out 45 while facing 19 batters.

At the plate, Case Boos was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, two stolen bases, and three RBIs, Jackson Bauer was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, two RBIs and three RBIs, and Tristan Schuerman was 2-for-3 with a triple, stolen base and three RBIs.

Vincent Schwartz was 2-for-2, Jarod Bonfiglio was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Caleb Recker hit a home run with four RBIs, Connor Norton hit a triple, Xander Greulich hit a double, and Colton Woodward, Connor Norton, Jordan Pickerel, Kadyn Donnell, and Brandon Falls had base hits for the Eagles.

Norton, Donnell, Bonfiglio, Pickerel and Isaac Reynolds reached after getting hit by pitches and Donnell, Falls and Pickerel had two stolen bases each.

Getting base hits for Fostoria were Aidan Sprang and Brayden Harrison. Kiesin Cramer took the moss on the mound and Trent Smith, Jordan Faber and Satoru Tanuma pitched in relief.

On Tuesday, the Eagles scored five runs with one out in the bottom of the fifth to walk-off mercy Clyde, 13-3 on Eastwood’s diamond.

The Eagles outhit Clyde, 9-3, but took advantage of three Flier errors, three walks, and had 11 stolen bases. Eastwood scored five runs in the first inning, two in the second, and one in the third to take a quick lead.

Ethan Rapp got the win on the mound, striking out nine, walking three and allowing three hits and three earned runs, including one homer by Evan Criswell, who had two RBIs.

At the plate, Bauer was 3-for-3 with a double, two stolen bases and three RBIs, Schuerman, who was 2-for-3, and Donnell tripled, and Pickerel had a double.

Andrew Badenhop had a base hit and three RBIs, and Rapp and Woodward had base hits. Badenhop, Boos, Pickerel, and Donnell were hit by a pitch.

Schuerman had three stolen bases and the Eagles got two each from Badenhop and Bauer, and one each from Woodward, Pickerel, Donnell and Reynolds.

For Clyde, Mason Gurney and Caden Bumb had base hits, Blake Garstenberger was hit by a pitch three times and Criswell was hit by a pitch once.

Garstenberger started on the mound, striking out three, walking two, allowing five hits and five earned runs through two innings, taking the loss.

Criswell pitched two innings, striking out four, walking four, and allowing four earned runs, and Dawson Kinsey closed, walking one and allowing two hits and one earned run while getting just one out in the fifth.

Toledo Christian 13, Lake 12

TOLEDO — Toledo Christian scored a walk-off run in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Lake, 13-12, in non-league baseball Tuesday.

For Lake, Connor Eck was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs, Jay Blazevich was 2-for-5 with an RBI, Drew Tajblik had a home run and six RBIs, and Gavin Kohlhofer, Kolton Adkins, Jack Sobzack and Nate Wagner had base hits.

The Eagles outhit the Flyers 12-10, but the Flyers were also able to take advantage of six errors and four walks. Both teams put up a six-run inning — the Eagles in the first and the Flyers in the fourth.

Myles Lowe had a sacrifice bunt and Blazevich, Adkins, Kohlhofer and Wagner had stolen bases. Aiden Young started on the mound, Matt Perry pitched middle relief, and Brandon Phillips closed, taking the loss.

Toledo Christian hit four home runs, including two by Lukas Donowa and one apiece from Tyler Grace and Malachi Beyer.

Donawa was 3-for-4 with five RBIs, Grace was 4-for-4 with an RBI, Beyer had three RBIs, Charlie Duck hit a double, and Kyle Gebhart, Gavin Hamilton and Kaiden Quinn had base hits. Quinn was hit by a pitch and Donaway, Gebhart and Grace had stolen bases.

Gebhart started on the mound, Beyer pitched middle relief, and Donowa closed the final three innings, getting the win.
