Prep Baseball Roundup: Otsego baseball wins fourth straight

TONTOGANY — Otsego sophomore Bodie Simon struck out six, walked four, and allowed three hits and no earned runs in pitching a complete game 12-1 victory over Woodmore in their Northern Buckeye Conference opener Monday.

Otsego won its fourth straight game to improve to 7-2 in game shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule.

The Knights scored eight runs in the first inning and had 10 hits as senior Tucker Hunsberger led the way, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and scoring two runs. Senior Blake Steele was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.

Simon, junior Michael Obringer, sophomore Mason Roe, senior Chase Lorenz, junior Cohen Feehan and freshman Devin Silva had base hits. Seven Otsego batters reached on walks and two were hit by pitches.

On Saturday, Otsego junior pitcher Danny Shanahan pitched a complete game two-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over host Elida in the Knights’ second game of the Ed Sandy Classic. Shanahan struck out six and walked two over seven innings.

Silva scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Three Otsego batters, Silva, Feehan and junior Jaxon Leremy had base hits against Elida pitcher Brady Kirk, a senior who struck out seven, walked five, but did not give up an earned run through seven innings despite taking the loss.

Silva had a stolen base and three Otsego batters, Steele, junior Tyler O’Brien and Simon reached after getting hit by a pitch.

Kirk and senior Larkin Henderson had the only hits off Shanahan for Elida.

In the first game of the Ed Sandy Classic, Feehan struck out four, walked one, and pitched a complete game one-hit shutout as the Knights defeated Delphos St. John’s, 7-0. Feehan and Shanahan combined to pitch 14 innings of shutout baseball in the Elida tournament.

O’Brien was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, Silva was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jeremy had a double, Hunsberger had a base hit and two RBIs.

For the Blue Jays, Grant Ulm started, striking out one and walking four while allowing six hits and four earned runs through four innings, and Josh Meuller struck out two, walked two, and allowed no hits or earned runs through two innings.

Cam Elwer had St. John’s only base hit off Feehan.

Lake defeats Fostoria, falls to Wauseon

MILLBURY—Drew Tajblik belted two doubles and had two RBIs to lead Lake to a 6-2 Northern Buckeye Conference baseball victory over visiting Fostoria Monday.

Connor Eck was 2-for-4, Gavin Kohlhofer doubled, and Jack Sobczak and Matt Perry had base hits for the Flyers, which outhit the Redmen, 7-5. The Flyers took advantage of six Fostoria errors.

Kohlhofer also had a sacrifice fly and Jay Blazevich had a sacrifice bunt. Perry, Blazevich and Caleb Tobias reached after getting hit by a pitch. Eck and Tobias had stolen bases.

Tobias started on the mound, striking out six, walking two, and allowing one hit and no earned runs through four innings.

Kolton Adkins closed the final three innings, striking out six, walking one, and allowing four hits and one earned run.

For Fostoria, Julius Robinson, Blake Miller, Aidan Sprang, Matthew Gierke, and Kiesin Cramer had base hits.

The Redmen had eight stolen bases, including two each by Derrick Kleinmark and Setoru Tanuma and one apiece by Matthew Balderama, Sprang, Robinson, and Gierke.

On Saturday, the Flyers fell at Wauseon, 8-1, in a non-league game, after allowing the Indians to score six runs in the second inning off Lake starter Tajblik. Wauseon outhit Lake, 8-3.

Kohlhofer was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Blazevich had a base hit. Perry was hit by a pitch.

Tajblik started on the mound, taking the loss, and Blazevich threw four innings of relief, striking out five, walking one,

Eastwood 12, Elmwood 2

PEMBERVILLE — Jackson Bauer struck out five, walked one, and allowed six hits and two earned runs over six innings in pitching a complete-game 12-2 victory over visiting Elmwood in Northern Buckeye Conference action Monday.

For Eastwood, which stays unbeaten at 7-0, it was thier league opener.

Eastwood exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an 8-1 lead and a single run in the fourth and fifth inning and two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Eastwood only outhit Elmwood, 9-6, but the Eagles had seven players reach on walks, nine stolen bases, and took advantage of two Elmwood errors.

For the Eagles, Tristan Schuerman was 2-for-5 with four RBIs, Case Boos was 2-for-3, reached twice on walks, had four stolen bases, and had RBI, Jordan Pickerel was 2-for-3, and Isaac Reynolds was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Reynolds, Caleb Recker, Colton Woodward, and Bauer reached after getting hit by pitches, and Reynolds had two stolen bases and Schuerman and Bauer had one apiece.

For Elmwood, Allen Sterling was 2-for-3 with a double, Colton Bradford had a double, and Andrew Holland, Luke Ambruster, and Hayden Wickard had base hits. Holland had a sacrifice fly and Mason Mossbarger reached after getting hit by a pitch.
