A Bowling Green man has been indicted for the murder of a woman and her unborn child.

According to court documents, he allegedly used a knife in the murder.

A Wood County grand jury on Wednesday indicted Jimmy Cole, 29, for three counts murder, two counts felonious assault and one count tampering with evidence.

Cole was a person of interest after Bowling Green police found 23-year-old Alicia Rosa Confer unresponsive in her apartment in the 300 block of North Main Street around 4:20 p.m. on March 30.

She was pregnant, according to her obituary.

The charges stem from the March 30 death of Confer and her unborn child. Confer died from several stab wounds, according to court documents.

She was reportedly in a relationship with Cole and it is believed that the child she was carrying was Cole’s, according to a joint press release issued by Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Dobson and Bowling Green Police Division Chief Tony Hetrick.

The murder charges are for the alleged purposeful death of Confer and her unborn child and well as causing their death by committing the offense of felonious assault.

The felonious assault charges allege that Cole caused or attempted to cause physical harm to Confer and her unborn child by means of a deadly weapon.

Cole also is accused of destroying, concealing or removing records, documents or items in order to impair their value as evidence.

Each count of murder carries a penalty of life imprisonment with parole eligibility after 15 years, according to the press release.

The felonious assault offenses carry penalties of up to eight years, and the tampering with evidence offense carries a penalty of up to three years. With certain offenses merging at sentencing, should Cole be convicted of all charges and all possible sentences run consecutively, he would face a maximum prison sentence of 33 years to life.

Cole was arrested March 31 in Fostoria for an unrelated charge.

Dobson commended BGPD detectives for their diligent work in assessing the crime scene, investigating and locating Cole.

“While we are just at the beginning stages of the prosecution and Mr. Cole is innocent until he is proven guilty, we are hopeful that we have taken the first steps to bring closure to Ms. Rosa’s family for this violent act. The family has asked that their desire for privacy be honored as they deal with this terrible loss,” he said.

Dobson also noted that although an indictment has been returned, the matter will continue to be investigated and the additional investigation could potentially result in additional or elevated charges.

Cole is being held at the Wood County Justice Center awaiting his arraignment before Judge Joel Kuhlman on April 13.

Cole was arrested March 31 in Fostoria for an outstanding warrant and was sentenced Monday to 57 days in jail.
