BG board made best decision and voters should support it

To the Editor:
Regarding the Bowling Green City Schools levy, I have listened both to proponents of the single
elementary and multiple elementary (three or more) options for weeks now. There is no questioning the
sincerity and passion of both sides. But I think this issue has become so contentious that many people
are not keeping the big picture in mind.
The big picture is that the two sides have much more in common than they have differences. Both sides
believe in the value of education in improving one’s quality of life over time. Both sides believe that
providing our elementary students with the best education we can is more important than providing the
cheapest education possible. And both sides believe that the current dilapidated elementary facilities
are beyond renovation and need to be replaced.
With all they have in common, these two groups should be allies. Yes, the board of education had to
choose one option over the other. They made that decision after extensive study and deliberation. But
either option would probably represent a massive improvement over the current state of affairs.
I believe that either option would result in success. Only doing nothing represents failure. I can tell
you that I would most certainly have voted for the three school option if the board had chosen that
option. I would hope that those voters who prefer the three school option will vote for this levy. Align
yourself with the option on the ballot that represents success, not the option that represents failure.
