BGSU cellists perform at Brown Bag concert
Cello students of university professor Alan Smith will perform a Brown Bag Music Series concert Friday at
11:45 a.m. at the Simpson Building, 1291 Conneaut Ave.
Listeners can bring their lunches to eat while listening to the performances from the Bowling Green State
University College of Musical Arts. Drinks and dessert are available for purchase.
The series is a collaboration between the college and the city Park and Recreation Department.
This is the last concert in the series.
Salvation Army on hand for BGSU band concert
A Salvation Army small brass ensemble will make itself heard be in the lobby of Kobacker Hall at Bowling
Green State University before the performance of the University and Concert bands Saturday at 8 p.m.
A freewill offering will be taken to help the Bowling Green Salvation Army.
The presence of the Salvation Army was arranged by Denise Showell, wife of Jeff Showell, dean of the
College of Musical Arts, as a reminder of the church’s work in the community throughout the year.
Folk-inspired string music on St. Tim’s Discovers program
PERRYSBURG – The Zin Quartet, an ensemble comprised of members of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, will
perform as part of the St. Tim’s Discovers series Sunday at 3 p.m. in the church at 871 E. Boundary St.
The string quartet – violinists Merwin Siu and Cheryl Trace, violist Reed Anderson, and cellist Renee
Goubeaux – will present A Celebration of Folk Music.
The 45-minute program will feature Charles Ives’ String Quartet No. 1, "From the Salvation
Army"; Sergei Prokofiev’s String Quartet No. 2 "Karbardinian"; and Adam Silverman’s
"Corrie Q’s Jigs and Reels."
A free will offering is taken to defray expenses.
Opera artists give recital
SYLVANIA – A trio of Toledo Opera artists in residence will perform a short recital of opera favorites
Monday at 1 p.m. at the Family Christian Center of Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St.
The performers will sing, chat and demonstrate the use of costumes in opera.
Performing will be soprano Abigail Krawson baritone Nicholas Ward with pianist Spencer Miller.

ReedReads exhibit opens at LeSo Gallery in Toledo
TOLEDO – An opening reception for presents ReedRead, an exhibit of interactive installation and
contemporary art focusing on the use of text, books, and a representation of communication, will be held
at LeSo Gallery, 1527 Starr Ave., Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Jamie Leigh Sampson will be offering the first release of her book,
"Contemporary Techniques for the Bassoon: Multiphonics," during the opening reception. Local
musicians will perform during the opening reception.
The show continues through April 26 when a closing reception with artist talks will be held at 7 p.m.
Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.
Watercolor classes offered
PERRYSBURG – Two series of watercolor workshops will be presented by PRIZM and the Way Public Library.
Watercolor Reunion: Learning from Experience offers instruction from artists who taught previous PRIZM
workshops.
Instructors will be John Trumbull, Hector Rameriz and Art Mancini.
Session number 1 will be offered April 23, May 7, 13 and May 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will cost $60
for PRIZM members and $70 for non-members. Session 2 will be offered Session May 3 and 10 from 1:30 to
4:30 p.m. and will cost $30 for members and $35 for non-members.
