MILLBURY – Grave prices at the Lake Township Cemetery are increasing in the new year.
Effective Jan. 1, the resident grave price is going up to $400 and the non-resident price is rising to
$800.
Also, there is now a $250 late fee for traditional or cremation burials that are scheduled after 2:30
p.m. in the cemetery.
The Lake Township Trustees approved the changes at Tuesday’s meeting.
Earlier this month, Trustee Jeff Pettit said it had been seven years since grave prices were increased at
the cemetery. The trustees did approve an increase in burial and stone prices in January.
The former cost of a resident grave at Lake Township Cemetery was $300; for non-residents the charge was
$700.
The late fee was added because the trustees must pay Sexton Dan Sprinski overtime when there is a burial
late in the afternoon.
Also at the meeting, the trustees:
• Approved several fund increases totaling $100,300 because of taxes, refunds, rebates or sale of assets.
They were $23,000 to the general fund, $15,000 to the fire levy fund, $68,000 to the police levy fund
and $10,000 to the Wiley/Finnerty Cemetery Bequest due to a new bequest. Also, there is $15,000 less to
the LGIF fund due to a reduced contract.
• Approved temporary appropriations of $1.9 million. This is for the township to operate the first 90
days in 2015 without a permanent budget.
• Accepted new firefighters David Weddle, Andrea Stieb, Michael Fuhrman and Justin Moore.
• Approved annual board level membership dues for the Wood County Economic Development Commission for
2015 of $1,500.
• Heard November department reports. Police made 14 arrests and issued 43 citations. Lake had 226 calls
for service, Walbridge had 102 and Millbury had seven. The fire department and EMS each had 97 calls.
The cemetery had 13 burials. Zoning received $565 and issued eight permits.
• Reappointed Spencer Wall to a five-year term on the zoning commission.
• Set the year-end meeting for Dec. 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the administration building.
• Approved leave under the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 for road worker Howard Troxell from
Dec. 16-Jan. 28.
• Accepted the donation of two trees from John Welch, a former trustee.
