Bowling Green’s Ralfs Freibergs made his Olympic debut Saturday during Latvia’s 5-3 loss to Sweden.
The sophomore defenseman had an assist on a power-play goal that brought Latvia within 4-3 in the third
period.
Freibergs finished the game with seven shifts, totaling 4:56. He was not on the ice for any of Sweden’s
goals.
Freibergs dressed but did not play in Latvia’s first two games, a 1-0 loss to Switzerland and a 4-2 loss
to the Czech Republic.
Latvia was 0-3 in the preliminary round and plays Switzerland again today in a qualification game.
The four qualification winners advance to the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The Latvia-Switzerland winner plays Canada in the quarterfinals.
All 12 teams advanced to the medal round.
