Showing off their skills

PERRYSBURG — On Friday, hundreds of high school students from across Northwest Ohio competed in various
skill contests at Penta Career Center during the Ohio SkillsUSA Northwest Regional Competition.
Students competed in a variety of contests including automotive service technology, CNC technician,
cosmetology, crime scene investigation, first aid-CPR, nurse assisting, welding, and more.
More than 600 top high school students, who are studying career-technical education programs in Northwest
Ohio, were scheduled to compete.
In addition to the 100 Penta Career Center students who competed, dozens of students from the following
school districts participated: Apollo Career Center, Clay High School, EHOVE, Four County Career Center,
Lima Senior, Madison, Mansfield, Millstream, Pioneer Career Center, Sandusky, Vanguard-Sentinel Career
Center, Sylvania Schools, Toledo School for the Arts, Toledo Public Schools (Aviation, Bowsher, Scott,
Start, Waite and Toledo Technology Academy), Tri-Rivers Career Center, Vantage Career Center and Whitmer
High School.
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who
are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health
occupations.
The organization provides quality educational experiences such as leadership, teamwork, citizenship and
character development skills.
