‘City Lights’ silent film is ‘Live in the House’ tonight

PEMBERVILLE — The Live! In The House Concert Series features Charlie Chaplin’s silent film "City
Lights" tonight at 7:30 in the historic Opera House, 115 Main St.
The film, which will be accompanied by pianist Lynne Long, will be preceded by a fundraising roast beef
dinner at 5:30 p.m. at Higher Ground, 222 E. Front St. The dinner is $9.95 plus tax and features roast
beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, carrots, roll and butter, homemade pie and a beverage.
Proceeds will benefit the opera house elevator fund.
In "City Lights," a homeless tramp befriends a lovely blind flower seller and convinces her
that he is a millionaire while he secretly labors to pay for the restoration of her sight. One of
Chaplin’s masterpieces, this hilarious and heart-rending film was made and released in 1931.
Pianist Long resides in Grand Rapids. A cum laude graduate of Bowling Green State University in piano
performance, she has maintained a private piano studio in her home since the early 1970s and currently
teaches 28 students. Long was a charter member of the Grand Rapids Arts Council, and now serves as
president of that organization. She is a trustee of the Grand Rapids Historical Society and coordinates
the summer outdoor musical series, "Rhythm on the River."
