River House’s Pieces of 8 on exhibit in Toledo gallery
Pieces of 8, a show celebrating Perrysburg’s River House Arts, will be included on Toledo’s Third
Thursday Art Loop tonight with a reception from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The show continues through June 30.
The exhibit is in the University of Toledo’s CVA Gallery, on the campus of the Toledo Museum of Art, 620
Grove St.
The exhibit features the work of eight artists who have exhibited at River House Arts. Artists in the
show are: Amy Beeler, JC Christy, Sandra Jane Heard, Lou Krueger, Mark Leone, Andrei Rabonzeenko,
Kristine Rumman and Adam Sanzenbacher.
Whitty to sing tunes from Great American Songbook
GRAND RAPIDS — Singer Michael Whitty will play a Rhythm on the River Arts Series show Sunday at 4 p.m. in
the Wright Pavilion located on the towpath between the canal and the Maumee River at the end of Lincoln
Street.
The singer, who plays trombone and piano, performs selections from the Great American Songbook ranging
from the Gershwins to Otis Redding. Whitty has been performing in venues all over the world for  30
years including shows in New York City, Las Vegas, the Florida Keys and Put-in-Bay. He will be joined 
Clifford  Murphy on double bass and Zac Kreuz on drums.
 The Series is sponsored by the Grand Rapids Historical Society.
Grossman art retrospective on exhibit at Way Library
PERRYSBURG — An Artist Life,  a retrospective of Joanne Grossman, is on exhibit at the Way Public Library
gallery through July. A reception will be held July 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The collection contains large scale oil paintings created by Grossman.  Memoirs on display include her
book,  “Letters from Camp” which documents the experiences of her father, Floyd Thornton, former
Perrysburg mayor, as an Army officer during World War I.
A 1948 graduate from Perrysburg High School, Grossman attended Bowling Green State University for a year
and then transferred to Ohio University to study art. After her marriage, she continued her study of art
at the Toledo Museum of Art.  
Grossman has entered many art shows including the Toledo Area Artists exhibition, winning multiple awards
over the years as well as the Preview ’71 exhibition in Cincinnati and the Butler Institute of Art in
Youngstown.
The exhibit is presented by the PRIZM Creative Community.
Jewelry classes offered by Grand Rapids Arts Council
GRAND RAPIDS — The Grand Rapids Arts Council is sponsoring two jewelry classes this summer with artist
Mad Kannen at the old Fire Station.
The first class “Floral Fringe” will teach participants to make a lovely beaded bracelet. The class will
be offered at two different times June 24 from 5-7  p.m., or   July 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. The  cost
including supplies is $40.  
The second class “Glass Bead Necklace” will allow students  to select 20 flameworked beads made by Kannen
to create their own necklaces. Offered Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon or July 13, 5 to 7 p.m.
