B&W film ‘Squaw Man’ featured at area opera houses

The silent movie, "The Squaw Man," will be shown Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the
Pemberville Opera House and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Grand Rapids Town Hall/Opera House. Tickets are
$10.This old-fashioned "Cowboys and Indians" movie was one of the first feature-length films
(80 minutes) to be made in Southern California. It was a huge success at the time, and marked the start
of Cecil B. DeMille’s directing and filmmaking career.The stars journey to American on the high seas,
travel out West and build relationships with Native Americans, then come to a fateful shootout.This
evening will include the piano stylings of Lynne Long. Long played for the film "The Black
