Piano competition winner returns to BG for ‘From the Top’

Teenage pianist Patrick Pan, the winner of last February’s David D. Dubois Piano Competition at
Bowling Green State University will return to campus for the live taping of National Public Radio’s
"From the Top" Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. in Kobacker Hall.Pan, 15, from Houston, Texas, and a student of
John Weems, is one of three acts booked to date for the program.He has won numerous competitions on both
piano and violin, and is a prize winner in math and science as well.Also booked to appear for the live
taping are:• Lena Goodson, a 15-year-old contrabassist from York, Pa. Goodson attends Central York High
School and studies bass with Devin Howell, the principal bassist of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra.•
Quartet Lumiere, based at The Academy at the Music Institute of Chicago. The quartet won the Junior Division
of the 2013 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Members are: violinist Rebecca Benjamin, violinist
Gallia Kastner, violist Mira Williams and cellist Josiah Yoo.Hosted by pianist Christopher O’Riley, the show
is heard locally Sundays on WGTE-FM and features the performances and personal stories of extraordinary
young classical musicians from across the country.The taping is the opening concert of the College of
