Drummer joins in Kenton tribute

TOLEDO – Drummer Peter Erskine, who joined the Stan Kenton Orchestra at 17, will be featured
artist during the Toledo Jazz Orchestra’s tribute to the bandleader April 6 at 8 p.m. the Valentine
Theatre.This is the second year in a row Erskine has played in the jazz orchestra’s annual Kenton
concert.Also featured will be John Harner who played lead trumpet for Kenton during Erskine’s tenure in
the early 1970s. He made his mark with his feature "Send in the Clowns" on the "Kenton
’76" album. The arrangement will be performed in Toledo.Also on the program will be standbys
"Peanut Vendor," "I Remember You" and "Intermission Riff" as well as
"My Funny Valentine" and a number of pieces from the pen of Lennie Niehaus.Tickets to the
