Broadway is focus of Way film screeningPERRYSBURG – The documentary "Broadway: The American
Musical, Episode 2" will be shown Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Way Public Library, 101 E. Indiana Ave.Directed
by Michael Kantor, this episode of the 2004 Emmy Award-winning series focuses on the Jazz Age, Broadway’s
most prolific era. In the 1920s, Broadway showcased the sweeping changes transforming American culture: new
roles for women; the mix of social classes in Prohibition speakeasies; creative opportunities for African
Americans in jazz clubs.The descendants of Jewish immigrants-including the Gershwins, Irving Berlin, and
Rodgers and Hart-combined the syncopated rhythms of jazz with lyrics that established a vibrant, witty new
American argot.Series features movies made by UT facultyTOLEDO – "Homecoming … Sometimes I am Haunted
by Memories of Red Dirt and Clay" a film by University of Toledo Charlene Gilbert will be shown today
at 7:30 p.m. in the UT Center for Performing Arts, Room 1039. The film is the first in a series of
screenings of work by UT faculty members."Homecoming" uses rare archival photographs, and analysis
by scholars and land reform activists to paint a picture of the journey of black farmers after the Civil
War. Gilbert chairs the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies.The other two screenings in the series, in
the same room and at the same time, are:• On Feb. 8, Tammy Kinsey, professor of Film, Department of Theatre
& Film will show "Packages" a digital video comprised of found foot examination of
objectification of the male body, and "Trust," a piece chronicling the experience of traveling
alone as a female.• On Feb. 15, Holly Hey, an associate professor of Film, Department of Theatre &
Film will show "the dumdum capital of the world," a first person video document that illuminates
social constructs and political barriers about sexuality, core values, self, and human instinct.’Escanaba’
in GenoaGENOA – The Genoa Civic Theatre & Literary Society will stage "Escanaba in Da
Moonlight" opening Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. at the Town Hall Opera House, 5091/2 Main St.Tickets are $10 and $8
