BGSU women’s soccer players earn MAC academic honors
CLEVELAND – Bowling Green women’s soccer players Leah Johnson, Jenny Fowler and Sidney Huth have been
named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team
Johnson earns the honor for the second time in her career, having also been named to the 2009 Academic
All-MAC team. Both Fowler and Huth, a sophomore, were named to the team for the first time.
In addition Kaylee Draper, a Perrysburg High School graduate, was one of eight Falcons to earn honorable
mention recognition. The others were: seniors Becca Ison, Emily Rothwell and Sarah VonderBrink; juniors
Ivi Casagrande, Kaitlyn Tobin; and Madeline Wideman, redshirt sophomore Kylie Briem.
Johnson, a fifth-year senior, played in all 19 matches this fall, making 17 starts. Johnson was a
recipient of the 1A Faculty Athletics Representatives Academic Excellence Award, given to
student-athletes who graduate with a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.8 or higher. Johnson had a
cumulative GPA of 3.97 entering the fall.
A junior, Fowler played in all 10 matches in 2012, making 17 starts. A biology major, she maintained a
cumulative grade-point average of 3.95 entering the fall 2012 semester.
A sophomore, Huth, played in every match in the 2012 season, making three starts. She led the Falcons
with three goals and seven points. She entered the fall semester with a 3.85 cumulative GPA as a health
science major.
Owens women go 2-1
PALM BEACH, FLA. -Uniqua Mitchell came within one point of a career-high in scoring, while Emma-Jean
Ricketts finished with a double-double as the Owens Community College women’s basketball team defeated
Central Wyoming College 70-54 in the Palm Beach Classic Monday.
Mitchell finished with 23 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks, while Ricketts
had 11 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Nandi Taylor added 12 points, seven assists and two steals for Owens.
On Sunday, ASA College from Brooklyn, N.Y., defeated Owens, 74-54 in the Palm Beach Classic.
Mitchell scored 15 points and added six rebounds for Owens. Also for Owens, Ricketts finished with 11
points (all in the first half), while Jordyn Bond nearly had her second consecutive double-double. The
freshman had eight points, 10 rebounds, three steals and one assist.
On Saturday, Owens defeated Miami Dade College 73-68 in a non-conference game.
Ricketts finished with 18 points and six rebounds on 7-for-13 shooting from the field.
Bond, who started in place of the injured Karahn Scott, produced 13 points, 11 rebounds, three steals,
three blocks and two assists. She finished 5-for-10 from the field in 27 minutes. She led the team in
rebounds, steals and blocks. Also for Owens, Taylor had 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while
Breonna House had 10 points, three rebounds and one assist off the bench.
Owens is 10-4 overall.
Eastwood biddy wrestlers compete
OAK HARBOR – Eastwood’s biddy wrestlers compete in the Oak Harbor Biddy Tournament Sunday.
Top finishers for Eastwood were: first, Brandon Hahn (9-10); second, Quinn Booth (11-12); and Callen
Young (7-8); third, Mason Glaze (9-10); and Kaden Kirkman (6-and-under); and fourth, Heath Hagg (9-10).
