Otsego musical groups
last act in Rhythm series
GRAND RAPIDS – The Otsego Show Choir, directed by Janine Baughman, and the Otsego
High School Band, directed by Richard Dubler, will bring the Rhythm on the River
Arts Series to a close Sunday 4 p.m. in the Wright Pavilion located on the
towpath between the canal and the Maumee River at the end of Lincoln Street.
The annual meeting of the Grand Rapids Historical Society, who sponsors the series,
will precede the program at 3:45 p.m., and all society members are urged to
attend.
The choirs and bands consistently earn superior ratings at Ohio Music Educators’
Association competitions. This program is one of the first performances of the
Show Choir for the school year, and the band will perform highlights from
several of their football halftime shows.
Raku pottery exhibit opens
at Akimbo Gallery in BG
"Honoring the Leaves," an exhibit of raku pottery by Anne Maiden, will open
Friday at Akimbo Gallery, 175 N. Main St., Bowling Green
An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.
Live traditional Irish music will be provided by Toraigh.
This event is held in conjunction with First Friday Gallery Hop.
PRIZM unveils new work
at gallery in Sam B’s
PRIZM Creative Community has installed a new collection of more than 150 pieces of
fine art, jewelry, ceramics, glass, stoneware, and decorative gifts at the Sam
B’s restaurant gallery, 163 S. Main Street in Bowling Green.
An opening reception will be held Friday from 8 to 10 p.m., the same evening as the
BG Gallery/Art Walk.
The collection will remain in place through the end of January.
This collection contains new work from 22 artists including pastel paintings by Beth
Ware, custom sterling and pearl jewelry by Amy Beeler, stamped sentiment jewelry
by Adrean Stulak, photography by Jennifer LaPlante and Chris Burch, wooden
jewelry boxes by Dave Graberczyk and stoneware by Corky Dunsmore.
Tatum’s birthday celebrated
at Jazz on the Maumee show
TOLEDO – Jazz on the Maumee will celebrate the birthday of jazz legend Art Tatum Oct.
10 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Grand Plaza Hotel’s Aqua Lounge, 444 N. Summit.
Performing will be pianist Matt DeChamplain and pianist Atla DeChamplain.
Tickets are $15 and $10 for Toledo Art Tatum Jazz Society.
Toledo Rep casting ‘Fox on the Fairway’
TOLEDO – Auditions for the Toledo Rep’s Main Stage production of Ken Ludwig’s comedy,
"The Fox on the Fairway" will be held at the theatre Saturday at 1
p.m.
Directed by Carol Ann Erford, will run weekends Jan. 18 through Jan. 27. Those
auditioning will be asked to read sides from the script that will be provided at
the time of auditions.

Firenation marks anniversary
HOLLAND – Firenation glass studio and gallery, 7166 Front St., will hold a 10th
annivesary celebration Friday from 7 to 10 p.m.
There will be glass demonstrations throughout the evening.

The Birdland Big Band
to perform at Valentine Theatre
TOLEDO – The spirit of famous New York City night club will be brought to the stage
of the Valentine Theatre in "Live at Birdland" Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

The show features The Birdland Big Band directed by drummer Tommy Igoe in a setting
designed to recreate the ambience and experience of a night at Birdland.
Featuring musicians from the New York jazz scene, the band explores standards as well
as 21st century sounds and world music from around the globe.
