Austin rockers offer arts fest preview

Grounds for Thought, 174 S. Main St., Bowling Green, will host a free Black Swamp
Arts Festival preview concert Monday at 8 p.m. with The Bright Light Social
Hour. The hard rocking outfit from Austin Texas is scheduled to perform as one of
the festival headliners on the Saturday show at the festival, Sept. 8.Kelly
Wicks, Grounds owner and chairman of the festival’s performing arts committee,
said the band first came to his and the committee’s attention through music
lovers who had heard The Bright Light Social Hour play at the Village Idiot in
Maumee.Wicks said he went over, played a few Bright Light Social Hour songs on
the jukebox, talked to people at the bar and was impressed enough to purchase
the group’s debut album through Finders."They’re doing neat things
combining Southern rock and electronic music," he said. The band was born
out of a university alt-rock collective in Austin. They blend rock riffs, dance
beats, disco, psychedelic blues and soul.At South By Southwest in 2011 they
garnered six Austin Music Awards, including Band of the Year, Album of the Year,
and Song of the Year.
