Winning touch at BGSU

Pianist Vitaly Serebriakov had the winning touch at the Marjorie D. Conrad Art
Song Competition finals Saturday night at Bowling Green State University.The College of
Musical Arts event honors duos of singers and pianists, and while singers only compete
once, pianists can collaborate with multiple vocalists.Serebriakov was part of the
winning duo with Drew Ochoa, a student of Doug Wayland, in the undergraduate
division.The graduate division was won by singer Elizabeth Pearse, a student of Jane
Rodgers, and pianist Karl Larson, a student of Laura Melton.Serebriakov, a student of
Robert Satterlee, paired with vocalist Summer Aebker in the second place winning duo in
the graduate division, and with Briana Sosenheimer for the third place duo in the
graduate division. Both singers are students of Myra Merritt.Second place undergraduate
duo was vocalist Courtney Wallace, a student of Ellen Scholl, and pianist Sarah Puckett,
a student of Thomas Rosenkrantz. Third place was Grace Hirt, a student of Christopher
Scholl, and Akira Kaku, a student of Satterlee.The performers perform songs written in a
variety of languages and styles. Songs by composer Libby Larsen were particularly well
represented. The composer was a resident artist on campus earlier this semester.The
first place duos will perform Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Manor House in the Wildwood
Metropark in Toledo.
