Pemberville former utility clerk is indicted for theft

A Wood County grand jury Wednesday indicted a former Pemberville village employee for theft in office.

According to court documents, Marcella A. Abke, 50, of Pemberville, in her role as Board of Public
Affairs clerk for the Village of Pemberville, took cash utility payments and failed to deposit those
into the village’s accounts.
Abke has been indicted for one count of theft in office.
The charge indicates from March 31, 2009 through Feb. 28, 2011, Abke used her position in office to take
cash which should have been deposited in the village utility account.
Records of original proceedings in Bowling Green Municipal Court indicated theft of $5,998, as indicted
the charge states the dollar figure to be between $500 and $5,000.
As indicted, the crime is a fourth-degree felony, which is punishable by a maximum of six to 18 months in
prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
The charge was filed Nov. 21 in the municipal court and the case was later bound over to the grand jury.

After Abke’s employment ended audit’s were conducted to determine the extent of the theft.
Her case has been assigned to Wood County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Pollex.
She is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 3 at 1:30 p.m.
