Fall traditions are often cherished. Time for football games, apple cider and donuts, as well as Eastwood
FFA’s annual chicken barbecue, which was held Sept. 16.
Planning for the event began weeks ahead, with tickets being passed out to the students to sell to the
community members.
Adult tickets consisted of full meals, while the children and senior citizen tickets were half portions.
The students sold their tickets, and the food ordered from Frobose Meat Locker in Pemberville.
The day before the barbecue, the agricultural classes helped to scoop the applesauce into containers and
wrap potatoes into tin foil. After school, a few members helped the chapter’s adviser, David Little to
set up the area for cooking.
Cooking began bright and early that morning with help from community members, parents, and members of the
chapter in order for the meal to be ready for the evening. Classes also helped to prepare the meals
throughout the day and completed various tasks. By the end of the school day, everything was in full
swing for the guests to arrive. At 4 p.m., the doors were opened and the first meals were served, and by
7 p.m., no more meals were remaining. More than 1,000 meals consisting of barbecued chicken, a baked
potato, applesauce, and rolls were served, along with numerous desserts. This was an increase from
previous years, thanks to the tremendous help.
The chapter extends its thanks to all for the great help everyone provided and to everyone who bought a
meal to support the chapter.
