PERRYSBURG – The Perrysburg Court Law and Government Explorer Post recently elected the leadership for
the coming year.
Robert Kitson is the president, Andrew Sironko serves as vice-president, Shelby Buzzell is the
correspondence secretary, Anne Redd is recording secretary, Najeeb Ahmed is the treasurer and Kaylyn
Weisenburger is historian.
The members of the Explorer Post received their materials for the 2011-12 Mock Trial on Sunday.
The case this year deals with Storm Jackson, a college freshman, who is accused of stealing prescription
drugs while attending two real estate open houses with his parents.
The defendant and his parents’ names were on a sign-in list at both of the open houses.
Without a warrant, the police subpoenaed and obtained Jackson’s cell phone GPS records before he was
arrested.
Jackson has filed a motion to suppress evidence claiming a violation of his Fourth Amendment rights.
There are 36 members of the post.
The members will form teams to argue this case in statewide competition.
Ohio Mock Trial is designed to foster a better understanding of the American democratic legal system and
to encourage development of analytical and communication skills.
The teams are coached by Peter R. Casey III, Kent Riesen, Dan Weiss, Adam Nowland and Judge S. Dwight
Osterud.
Dr. Beth Rohrbacher and Pinky Edens assist. Jake Studer and Jamie Casey, University of Toledo law
students, also help with coaching.
High school students are invited to join and compete in mock trial.
Information about joining is available from Jennifer Meece at (419) 874-7915.
