On Tuesday, Owens students who participated in a for-credit study abroad program will talk about their
experiences while in China. The event will take place in College Hall, Room 100 from 11 a.m. to 12:15
p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Nine Owens students, ranging in age from 22 to 57, participated in the China Study Tour May
12-26.Participating students included Deondra Banks, Loral "Mike" Browning, Regina Berry, Erin
Lein and Sharita McBride, all of Toledo; Steven Hottinger, Fremont; Helen Kistner, Weston; Mathew
Kovacs, Maumee; and Dianna Nevius, Gibsonburg.
To prepare for the experience, students took a one-credit-hour preparation course. They also took Chinese
language classes and attended lectures in Chinese history and culture at Ningbo Polytechnic, Ningbo,
China, earning an additional two credits. During the second week of the study tour, students traveled to
Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai, where they visited historical and cultural sites.
Students will talk about their thoughts and fears before embarking on the study tour, what surprised them
about China, what they liked about China, the hardest part of the study tour, and what they learned
about themselves as a result of the experience. A video presentation will precede the student
discussion.
