Elizabeth R. Wyckoff

Elizabeth "Betty" R. Wyckoff, 97, of Bowling Green, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011.
Betty was born in Philadelphia, PA, August 4, 1914 to Fredrick and Matilda Roberts.
She went to Eastern Baptist Seminary, in Philadelphia, PA, where she was ordained a pastor in 1938. She
was the first woman to become an American Baptist pastor in Pennsylvania.
She has been the assistant pastor in many churches over the course of time in Pennsylvania, California,
Kentucky and in the late ’60s to the early ’80s, she was the director of Christian Education and Youth
Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Toledo, on Collingwood and Central.
Upon retirement, she took on another assignment, to pilot a program called National Minister-at-Large in
which she would interview members seeking information and resolving any conflict within the church. She
then traveled throughout the American Baptist churches across Colorado, Wyoming, Washington, New Jersey
and Ohio.
She retired to the Bowling Green community 30 years ago and has loved every minute of her time here. She
was active in visiting people in the hospital, nursing homes, playing the piano and volunteering at the
Senior Center and was the church organist at Village View Church of Christ for many years. She loved
people, loved to go for walks and loved adventure trips on the road and was a delight to be around.
She is survived by three children, Irene Wyckoff of Wheeling, IL, Gloria Fisher of Encino, CA and Ed
Wyckoff of Salt Lake City, three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
To sum up her life in six words would be: She "Loved the Lord" and "Loved to serve."
All of this was done with a sense of humor, heart of compassion and a positive attitude. She will be
greatly missed.
