Players’ ‘Tenor’ earns acting honors at competition

The Black Swamp Players’ 35-minute excerpt of last April’s production "Lend Me A Tenor" earned
four major awards at the Ohio Community Theater Association’s Regional Competition last weekend at the
Maumee Indoor Theatre.
Cast members Lane Hakel, Zach Lahey and Bob Marzola all won Excellence in Acting awards. Marzola was
playing the tap dancing bellhop, substituting for Dan Cota who played the part when the play was
originally staged in spring.
The Players brought a cast and crew of 16 down to help move the complicated set of six doors, a bed and a
room full of furniture on and off the stage within a five-minute limit. The judges awarded the cast,
directed by Bob Hastings, a Merit in Set Up award for the feat.
The event was attended by 11 theater groups including the Toledo Rep, Village Players, 3B Productions and
troupes from Oregon and Genoa.
