Zajac sings hometown recital

PERRYSBURG – Classical vocalist Kathryn Zajac will return to her hometown and home church to perform a
recital of arias and art songs Sunday at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary of Zoar Lutheran Church.
Preceding the concert at 4 p.m. she will offer a singer’s workshop also in the sanctuary for high school
students interested in majoring in opera and vocal performance in college.
The performance will include arias and classical selections from a variety of composers in German,
Italian, and French. Kathryn will also perform English art songs as well as musical theater pieces. She
will be accompanied by pianist Eric Dickey.
Zajac is a lifelong member of Zoar and a 2005 graduate of Perrysburg High School. She graduates in June
with a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. Ms. Zajac

During the workshop and performance a free will offering will be collected with the proceeds going to
Kids Against Hunger Program at Zoar and to assist Zajac with professional training expenses this summer.

A dessert reception in the Family Life Center at Zoar is planned after the concert.
Highlights of her educational career at CCM include the role of the second Lady in Mozart’s "Magic
Flute"; Goddess Minerva in Offenbach’s "Orpheus in the Underworld" and a Carmelite nun in
"Dialogues of the Carmelites."
Recently she has performed opera scenes at CCM with internationally acclaimed opera composer and director
Carlisle Floyd as the doll in "Bilby’s Doll." Kathryn has also performed in "La
Boheme" in Lucca, Italy.
She has worked with the world renowned vocal coaches Graham Johnson and Marie-France Lefebvre and she has
studied voice with William McGraw and Barbara Paver.
Zajac has been a finalist and semi-finalist in several regional and national vocal competitions.
She was selected as a Cincinnati Opera Young Artist for 2009 and 2010 and has appeared in the summer
Cincinnati Opera productions of "Carmen," "Don Carlo," "Meistersinger,"
"Otello" and the company’s 90th gala celebration.
Later this month she will leave for Malibu, Calif., to participate in a young professional singers
workshop and performance program to work with artistic directors, vocal coaches, vocal instructors, and
composers including Jake Hegge and Libby Larson. She hopes the program will serve to launch her
professional career.
