Hailey McCarron 4th in equine proficiency
The Bowling Green FFA pulled in all five possible chapter awards at the 83rd Ohio FFA Convention last
weekend in Columbus.
Out of 325 chapters, BG ranked eighth overall and was named a "Gold Emblem Chapter," which
qualifies it for the national competition as one of the top 30 in the state.
The chapter also earned top 10 status in the Models of Innovation area in student development. Actual
rankings are not made.
Hailey McCarron was named the fourth place equine entrepreneurship proficiency award winner in Ohio. She
received a plaque and cash prize for the accomplishment. She also ranked first among the District 1
participants. McCarron raises and trains her own horses for shows and riding lessons.
Other recognition was given in the following areas:
¥ The Children’s Miracle Network recognized Bowling Green for raising $4,150 "For the Kids"
with its annual mini dance marathon.
¥ The Christian Rural Overseas Project (CROP), recognized the chapter for its contributions to the
organization
¥ The Ohio FFA Foundation presented the chapter with a banner for its support and sponsoring the Ohio
Reporter’s Award program.

The top three chapter activities in student development were the District Leadership Training and
banquet, social etiquette and agricultural research. The chapter hosted 29 FFA chapters in District 1 at
a leadership officer training workshop at the high school and then arranged for an awards banquet to
follow. There were 250 who attended these activities. FFA members were exposed to social situations and
public functions to give them the opportunity to react socially and use proper manners while enjoying
healthy lifestyles.
Agricultural research was conducted on the 10-acre production lab, poultry nutrition trials and game fish
rearing.
Three chapter officers each received gold medals as one of the top secretaries, treasurers and reporters
in Ohio. Each ranked first in district competition in their respective areas and received perfect
scores. Taylor Jackson was honored as outstanding secretary, Sibly Saunders was recognized as an
outstanding treasurer, and Ashley Ford was awarded with her scrapbook.
The agricultural communications career development event team received a plaque for ninth place in Ohio.
Team members were Krysti Dubler, Saunders, Jackson, McCarron and Amy Johnson.
Three BG FFA members’ pictures will be added to the State Degree Wall in the classroom. They are Jackson,
Kelby Kale and Samantha King. This is the highest degree the state of Ohio can award an FFA member. It
recognizes outstanding supervised agricultural experience projects, FFA achievements and activities,
school and community activities and scholarship. Less than two percent of all FFA members will ever
receive this honor.
(Additional information on these three honorees will appear in a future edition.)
The Bowling Green delegation featured 17 students, five parents and the adviser in attendance at the
convention.
