Two charged with stealing baby food, pet food

Two Toledo men, both now in custody in the Wood County jail, have been charged for theft primarily of
baby food and pet food from Perrysburg retail stores.
One also snagged some Easter candy and a computer for good measure.
Bills of information were handed down for both men and four other individuals following a Wednesday
session of the grand jury
Kevin Smart, 49, of Toledo is charged with theft of nearly $1,050 worth of merchandise from Wal-Mart in
Perrysburg Township.
According to court records, on March 14 Smart left Wal-Mart with 40 containers of infant formula, a bag
of dog food and an HP computer valued at nearly $400. He also is accused of stealing a blue tote,
assumed to have held the other merchandise.
He also was charged with receiving stolen property from a nearby Meijer store, when he was found to be in
possession of another tote containing 49 more cans of infant formula, along with two Reese’s peanut
butter eggs, a package of Cadbury mini chocolate eggs and two packages of Starbursts jelly beans. Those
items totaled in excess of an additional $!,000.
Two days earlier, on March 12, Donald McBride, 50, of Toledo, is charged for theft in regard to nearly
$600 worth of baby formula and cat food from the same Wal-Mart in Perrysburg. Smart’s case has been
assigned to the courtroom of Judge Robert Pollex; while McBride will be before Judge Alan Mayberry.
