Grand Rapids pool to host ‘quartermania’ event

GRAND RAPIDS – "Quartermania" is coming to Woodland Mall on Tuesday to benefit the Grand Rapids
Area Swimming Pool (GRASP).
The raffle-style auction promises an evening of fun using only quarters to bid on prizes, though
bid-paddles will need to be purchased at three for $5.
The event is open to the community. Bidders can gather at the food court between 6 and 7 p.m. to look
over items for purchase, plus buy their bidding paddles. The auction begins at 7 p.m.
Paddles include a chip with a matching number, which is added to the bucket to be drawn from for each
item auctioned. As the item is auctioned off, bidders raise their paddle and place the specified quarter
bid in front of them.
If a bidder uses more than one paddle, he or she must pay the bid for each paddle.
When all the bids are placed, a numbered chip will be drawn from the bucket. If the number on the paddle
matches the number drawn, that person wins. Numbers continue to be drawn until there is a winner.
Previous auction items have come from such vendors as Creative Memories, At Home America, Pampered Chef,
Running Stitch Designs, Stella & Dot Jewelry, Super Suppers, Tastefully Simple, Party Lite, Dove
Chocolatier, Mary Kay and Tupperware.
Proceeds from the event go to GRASP which is a non-profit organization consisting of volunteers who
assist with the opening, operating, maintaining and closing of the Grand Rapids swimming pool. GRASP
receives no grant funding and relies on donations, family memberships, single pool admissions and
fund-raisers for its support to make repairs, buy pool chemicals and pay the trained lifeguards who are
the only ones who receive money.
Donations for GRASP can also be sent to P.O. Box 231, Grand Rapids, OH 43522.
