Programs planned to prevent child abuse

A community event in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month will be held Monday by the Wood County
Department of Job and Family Services, Children’s Services Unit.
The event will start at 11 a.m. in the Wood County Courthouse Atrium with a silent auction. Pizza and sub
sandwiches will be available for purchase.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Children’s Services donated funds, which make the annual
Foster Family Holiday Party possible. The funds also provide for other needs such as camp, senior
pictures, prom dresses, sports and extra curricular activities for foster children.
Paulette Stephens, the director of Job and Family Services and the Wood County Commissioners will speak
about the impact of child abuse and neglect in the local community.
Following the silent auction, at 12:45 p.m., the event will move to First United Methodist Church located
at 1506 E. Wooster St. in Bowling Green.
There, children from the FUM day care will plant 719 pinwheels. Each pinwheel represents one report of
child abuse or neglect that was investigated in Wood County in 2010.
