Violin concert concludes Brown Bag series is BG
Violinist Iona Galu will perform the final Brown Bag Music Series concert of the season Friday from 11:45
a.m. to 1 p.m. at Simpson Building, 1291 Conneaut Ave., Bowling Green.
People are invited to bring their own lunch. Drinks and desserts are available for purchase.
The concerts are sponsored by the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation and the College of Musical Arts at
BGSU.

Students to present papers at BGSU art history conference
Young scholars from Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Minnesota will gather April 9 at Bowling
Green State University to present original research on topics concerning the history of art.
"New Perspectives in Visual Culture: The 5th Annual BGSU Undergraduate Art History Symposium"
will include lectures by bachelor’s degree candidates with topics arranged thematically into four
panels.
The purpose of this symposium is to recognize young students for their excellence in scholarly research
and foster professional development for those intending to pursue a career in art history.
This year’s selected panelists will present papers under the categories of "Critiquing
Marginality," "Constructing Identity," "Internalizing Modernism," and
"Instigating Morality."
Dr. Nell Andrew, Associate Professor of Modern Art History at the University of Georgia, Athens, will
deliver the keynote address and the closing remarks.
Violinist Mark O’Connor to visit, perform in Toledo
TOLEDO – Violinist and composer Mark O’Connor will be the featured guest artist at the University of
Toledo Festival of New Music April 6 and 7 on campus.
O’Connor will also perform his Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No 6, "Old Brass," with the
Toledo Symphony Orchestra April 8 and 9 at 8 p.m. in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle.
Some of his works, which range widely between folk and classical, will be performed with O’Connor in
attendance by the UT Symphony Orchestra, and Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, in a concert April 6 at 8
p.m. in University Hall in Doermann Theater. On April 7, O’Connor will talk about his work and meet with
students during an interview discussion, at 1 p.m. in the UT Center for Performing Arts Recital Hall.

The festival begins with a recital of student works April 5 at 8 p.m., and concludes with a concert of
electronic and mixed media work April 7 at 8 p.m., both events in the recital hall.

Solose piano series artist
TOLEDO – Pianist Jane Solose will visit the University of Toledo campus Saturday and Sunday as part of
The Dorothy MacKenzie Price Piano Series.
Solose, a noted recitalist and teacher, will present a program Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Center for the
Performing Arts recital hall honoring the 200th birthday of composer and pianist Franz Liszt by
performing "A Liszt Fantasie" from composer Mary Jeanne Van Appledorn, as well as Liszt’s
"Un sospiro" and Sonata in B Minor as well as Beethoven’s "15 Variations and Fugue in
E-flat major, ‘Eroica.’"
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon in the recital hall she will offer a master class and the recital is on
Sunday at 3 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
