TODAY
The Faculty Jazz Group with guest artist trombonist Jay Ashby will perform at 8 p.m. in Bryan Recital
Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center as part of Jazz Week 2011.
THURSDAY
"Zanan-e bedun-e mardan (Women without Men)," a 2009 film by Iranian director Shirin Neshat,
will be shown at 7 p.m. in Gish Film Theater in Hanna Hall. Set against the backdrop of the 1953,
CIA-backed coup that prompted the spread of religious fundamentalism, the film follows the stories of
four women.
Author Josh Weil will give a reading from his work at 7:30 p.m. in Prout Chapel. He is the College of
Arts and Sciences Distinguished Visiting Writer.
The Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Christopher Buzzelli, will perform at 8 p.m. in Bryan Recital Hall
as part of Jazz Week 2011.
FRIDAY
High school jazz ensembles from around the area will perform and take part in an informal master class
with guest artist trombonist Jay Ashby from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts
Center.
The Jazz Lab Band I, directed by David Bixler, will perform with guest artist Jay Ashby at 8 p.m. in
Kobacker Hall.
SATURDAY
The Dr. Marjorie Conrad Peatee Art Song Competition will be held in Kobacker Hall with the preliminaries
at 1 p.m. and the finals at 8 p.m.
SUNDAY
The winners of the fifth annual Bowling Green Chamber Music Competition will present a concert at 3 p.m.
in the Great Gallery of the Toledo Museum of Art.
A musical version of Thornton Wilder’s beloved play "Our Town" will be screened at 3 p.m. in
the Gish Film Theater in Hanna Hall as part of the Sunday Matinee series. The 1955 "Producer’s
Showcase" television presentation features Frank Sinatra, Eva Marie Saint and Paul Newman, with
words and music by Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen. Also shown will be "In the Moment," a
17-minute film with Saint in a chronological review of her career in television and film. Film historian
Dr. Jan Wahl will host the event.
APRIL 4
The Student Composers’ Forum will present undergraduate and graduate student compositions at 8 p.m. in
Bryan Recital Hall.
AT THE GALLERIES
The BFA Senior Thesis Exhibit continues through Sunday in Willard Wankelman and Dorothy Uber Bryan
galleries in the Fine Arts Center. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 6-9 p.m.
Thursdays, and 1-4 p.m. Sundays. The exhibit remains up through April 3.
"Here, There and Elsewhere: Refugee Families in Milwaukee," a photo-documentary exhibit at the
Bowen-Thompson Student Union Art Gallery, continues through Sunday.
