Calhoun, Thomas earn All-MAC honors
CLEVELAND — Bowling Green’s A’uston Calhoun and Scott Thomas were named to the All-Mid-American
Conference men’s basketball honorable mention list in voting by the league’s head coaches.
A redshirt sophomore, Calhoun leads the team in scoring with 12.6 points per game. In conference games
only, he ranked 10th in the MAC at 14.7 points per contest. Calhoun is also second on the team in
rebounding at 5.7 per game, leads the Falcons with 24 blocked shots, and is tied for the third with 27
steals. He scored in double-figures in 13 of 16 MAC games.
A junior, Thomas is a versatile player and is the only player in the MAC to rank in the top 10 in the
league in both rebounding and assists. He is second on the team at 11.4 points per game and leads the
Falcons in rebounding at 6.7 per contest and steals with 65. The 65 steals rank as the fifth-highest
single-season total in school history.
The MAC named five players on the first-team, five on the second-team and 10 honorable mention
performers. The first team is Kent State’s Justin Greene; Miami’s Julian Mavunga; Ohio’s D.J. Cooper;
Northern Illinois’ Xavier Silas; and Ball State’s Jarrod Jones.
Falcon baseball wins
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — Bowling Green had two five-run innings on the way to a 16-4 win over Mount Saint
Mary’s in college baseball action Wednesday. BG is 3-7 having won two in a row.
Clay Duncan hit a home run for BG and had three RBI. Also for Matt Pitzulo was 3-for-5 with two doubles
and four RBI; Frank Berry added two hits and four RBI; and Alex Davidson had two hits and scored four
runs.
BGSU softball rained out
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. —The Bowling Green Falcon softball team had two games rained out Wednesday.
The Falcons will compete in the Springhill Suites Buckhead Classic in Atlanta, Ga. on Friday and
Saturday.
Owens’ Michalak pitches strong game
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Ashlyn Michalak pitched a five-inning perfect game of the Owens Community College
softball team in a 12-0 win over the Community College of Beaver County. Owens also beat Olney Central
College, 5-4, to improve to 6-0.
Of the 15 batters she faced, Michalak struck out 10. The other five didn’t even reach the outfield as she
forced three popups and two ground outs.
Alaina Haubert led a balanced offensive attack for the Express, while going 3-3 with a double, and an
RBI. Lindsey Bandeen went 3-4 with an RBI, and Allison Hausch went 2-3 with two RBI.
In the win over Olney Central, Owens scored twice in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Kristen
Roznoski’s base hit drove in both runs.
