Solway nominated for CCHA award
Bowling Green senior captain David Solway is Bowling Green’s nominee for the Central Collegiate Hockey
Association’s scholar-athlete of the year award.
He has a 3.4 grade-point average in supply chain management.
Each school nominates one player for the award. The winner will be announced March 17 at the league’s
annual awards banquet in Detroit.
BG softball falls
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Bowling Green’s softball team is 2-10 after a 7-5 loss to Middle Tennessee State
Tuesday. Adrienne Dick hit a sixth-inning grand slam for BG.
Game 2 of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to rain.
Also for BG Paige Berger was 2-for-4, including her fourth home run of the season. It was Dick’s second
home run of the season. The Falcons had only five hits in the game.
Owens baseball wins twice
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Owens Community College baseball team is 5-0 after beating Marshalltown CC, 902,
and Danville CC, 9-6 at the Ripken Experience Tuesday.
Joe Sickler, from Bowling Green High School, and Jesse Solomon each had two hits in the opener for Owens
with Solomon hitting a two-run home run. Six different players had an RBI for Owens.
In the second game, Lake High School graduate Ryan Hotmer was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on
three hits and two walks in three innings. He has had a two-RBI single in the game.
Sickler was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Matt Hayes and Garrett Busch each added two hits
for the Express.
The Express are idle today.
Owens softball improves to 4-0
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Owens Community College softball team is 4-0 after beating Sauk Valley CC, 11-6,
and Lincoln College, 8-4 Tuesday.
A 10-run first inning, in which the first 11 batters reach based safely, buoyed the Express in theiwin
over Sauk Valley.
Offensive leaders for Owens included, Michelle Hollister , 2-for-2, two RBI; and Courtney Mowery,
2-for-3, double, two runs scored, RBI.
In the second game for Owens, Bridget Wolfe was 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI and
Ashleigh Whitacre was 2-for-3 with a double.
Elmwood boosters to meet
JERRY CITY — The Elmwood Athletic Boosters are meeting March 16 at 7 p.m. in the High School Media
Center.
Smith wins weight-lifting competition
COLUMBUS — Bowling Green resident Joe Smith won the 163-pound class of the bench press at the Arnold
Classic ProBench competition.
Smith, competing at a body weight of 158 pounds, set the world record in his weight class in the bench
press with a weight of 551 pounds.
Smith will travel to Austria in May to compete on the United States’ bench press team at the IPF World
Championship.

Corns bowled for Eastwood
Morgan Corns was a member of the Eastwood girls varsity bowling team. Her name was not provided to the
Sentinel-Tribune and thus omitted from Tuesday’s story about the team’s conference honors.
