BG women’s noter: Prochaska guts out 37 minutes in MAC quarterfinals (3-9-11)

CLEVELAND – Lauren Prochaska gutted out 37 minutes for Bowling Green Wednesday afternoon in the
Mid-American Conference tournament quarterfinals.
Prochaska finished with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and a block in BG’s 66-57 win over Ohio
University.
The senior, who is BG’s career scoring leader, has been battling a foot injury for over a month and is
not 100 percent.
“Lauren has been defended well by this team (Ohio),” BG head coach Curt Miller said. “There was added
pressure with a WNBA coach in the building, watching her every move.
“She just didn’t have one of her great games,” he continued. “She’s a warrior … I’m not going to make a
lot of excuses for her, because she is a great player. She just didn’t have her typical game.”
HAVEL: As a player coming off the bench for the Falcons, you always have to be ready when Miller decides
to make a change.
The was the case for redshirt sophomore Danielle Havel Wednesday.
Havel has played in every game this season, averaging 9.6 minutes per game before Wednesday’s
quarterfinal.
Havel sat out last season after transferring from DePaul.
“It’s always exciting,” Havel said about answering Miller’s call. “Sitting in the stands last year was a
lot different from playing this year.
“I do know that everyone on the team has a role. It’s just a matter of when your number is called, you
have to go and do your best for how ever many minutes you get,” Havel added.
Against Ohio, she played 13 minutes and finished with two key second-half baskets to go with three
assists, a steal and two rebounds.
“It was obvious that they were staying out on Chrissy (Steffen), Tracy (Pontius) and ‘Lo’ (Prochaksa),”
Havel said. “I was left open and I just took my shots.”
Havel and Steffen were teammates at Carmel (Ind.) High School, helping the team win the Class 4A title in
Havel’s senior year.
PONTIUS: Pontius played a strong second half for the Falcons scoring 13 of her team-high 15 points in the
final 20 minutes while adding three assists.
TURNOVERS: The Falcons had six turnovers in the first half, resulting in nine points for Ohio.
In the second half, BG turned it over only four times and the Bobcats converted those into seven points.

“We needed to take care of the ball better and down the stretch we did that,” Miller said. “It wasn’t
perfect, but it was certainly a lot better.”
