Dopsie show now April 12
Dwyane Dopsie and His Zydeco Hellraisers have rescheduled the band’s show and recording session at
Grounds for Thought in Bowling Green for April 12 at 8 p.m.
The band was originally scheduled to play in February but had to cancel.
The show will recorded for an vinyl record which will be released by Grounds for Thought at the 2011
Black Swamp Arts Festival.
BGSU announces winners of chamber music competition
Four student chamber ensembles from Bowling Green State University’s College of Musical Arts have been
announced as the winners of the fifth annual Chamber Music Competition held Feb. 20.
The winner of the undergraduate division was the "Four Corners Quartet " – Xiao Han, soprano
saxophone, Ryan Hurd, alto saxophone, Corey Whitt, tenor saxophone, and Anthony Nicolia, baritone
saxophone and coached by graduate assistant Noa Even. Taking second place in the undergraduate division
was "Flow Like Water," a percussion trio consisting of Alvin Dawson, Jacob Bori and Elizabeth
Hall from Medinam and coached by Roger Schupp.
The graduate division winner was the "Ying Quartet" – John Cummins, soprano saxophone, Drew
Sevel, alto saxophone, Pin-hua Chen, and Elissa Kana, baritone saxophone, coached by John Sampen. The
second-place winners of the graduate division were the "Color Field Ensemble" soprano Amanda
DeBoer, pianist Karl Larson, and clarinetist Spencer Prewitt, from Braymer, Mo. and coached by Dr. Jane
Schoonmaker Rodgers.
Way to screen ‘Laura’
PERRYSBURG – The film noir classic "Laura" will be shown March 10 at 10 a.m. in the Way Public
Library as part of the Reel Talk series.
Otto Preminger directed the 1944 murder mystery which stars Dana Andrews with Gene Tierney, Clifton Webb
and Vincent Price. Frank Murphy, an area artists and film scholar, will be the guest speaker. Admission
is free.
German Mardis Gras celebrated at Oak Shade
OREGON – A German-style Mardi Gras will be presented Saturday starting at 7 p.m. Oak Shade Hall, 3624
Seaman Road
The band, Alpen Echoes, from Cincinnati will perform. There will be a "royal" procession as
well as a masquerade costume parade with prizes. A Fasching Frühstuck breakfast will be served at 12:01
a.m. New Orleans style, German and American food will be available for purchase, as well as a cash bar.
Admission is $10 at the door; children under 14 are free. Costumes are encouraged.
