Falcon hockey hopeful for CCHA playoff success (03-02-11)

Although Bowling Green finished last in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, it believes it has a
chance to win its first-round playoff series at Northern Michigan.
BG was 1-2-1 against NMU this season and was competitive in all four of those games.
The Falcons split a November series at NMU, winning 2-1 in the opener and losing 5-1 in Game 2 in a game
that was 2-1 with seven minutes left.
NMU earned a 2-2 tie and 3-2 win at BG two weeks ago.
The teams play a best-of-3 series at NMU Friday, Saturday and, if necessary, Sunday.
"For a team that has struggled winning games, this matchup is as good as we could could ask
for," BG coach Chris Bergeron said. "But they’ve had success against us and it’s still not an
easy trip to get to Northern."
NMU, located in Marquette on the western end of the Upper Peninsula, is approximately nine hours from BG.

BG is 8-24-4 overall and was 3-21-4-2 in the CCHA. NMU, finished sixth at 14-17-5, 12-13-3-0.
MSU RECAP: BG didn’t play well at Michigan State last weekend, losing 2-1 and 2-0."
"I don’t think we had a whole lot of fight this weekend," Bergeron said. "I don’t think it
was us at all. If that’s an indication of what we’re going to get at (NMU), its’s going to be a very
short playoff stint.
"If we get back to fighting and playing the game the way we want to play it, we should go up to
Northern with as much confidence that this team could have against any other team in our league. If we
can get back to doing what we’ve been doing, we’re going to give ourselves a great chance."
