Falcon men aim to finish strong before MAC tourney (03-01-11)

While Bowling Green’s actual seed is still in doubt, there is a good chance the Falcons will host a
first-round game in the Mid-American Conference men’s tournament next Tuesday.
But first the Falcons have two more regular-season home games this week, starting with Kent State
tonight. Tipoff is at 7:30 and the game will be televised on SportsTime Ohio.
"With these last couple of games, I hope our guys understand how much great history and how many
people walked on that court and played on that court before they have," said BG head coach Louis
Orr.
The Falcons are currently the No. 7 seed, but things could change with the final two games. Buffalo and
Central Michigan are both looking to earn one of the top eight seeds and could move the Falcons to the
No. 9 seed.
It has been a season of extremes for the Falcons, 12-12 overall and 7-7 in the MAC East. BG started the
season 1-8 and then went 11-4 to reach .500. The Falcons are currently on a five-game losing streak.
SCOUTING KENT STATE: Kent State is 19-10 overall and tied for first in the MAC East with Miami at 10-4.

In the first meeting this season the Golden Flashes used their inside game to perfection in an 80-63 win
over the Falcons. Kent State’s dribble penetration and offensive rebounding were defensive problems for
the Falcons in the first meeting.
The Golden Flashes play good defense, holding opponents to just 41.3 percent shooting and only 31.9
percent from 3-point range. Kent State is also near the top of the MAC with 8.0 steals per game and
averages 4.0 blocks per contest as well.
Justin Greene, a 6-feet-8 junior, is averaging 15.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest, while shooting
47.5 percent from the floor and blocking 41 shots.
Carlton Guyton, a 6-4 junior who did not play in the first meeting between BG and Kent State, is second
on the team with 13.0 points per game.
Rodriguez Sherman, a 6-3 senior, is at 12.8 points per contest.
"A lot of it is going to be heart and desire and who wants the game the most and whose will to win
is going to be the strongest," Orr said.
NEXT: Bowling Green plays its last regular-season game in Anderson Arena Saturday hosting Buffalo. Tipoff
is at 1 p.m.
"To me it’s a privilege to be a part of Anderson Arena’s illustrious and long-term history,"
Orr said. "First of all there are a lot of great fans. They call it ‘The House That Roars’ and
that’s because of the people, not because of the building. It’s because of the support of the
university, the students, the community and long-time fans, who are loyal supporters of the orange and
brown.
"It’s been a privilege, honor and a blessing to be a part of that."
