Eastwood fourth, BG fifth at boys bowling districts (03-01-11)

ROSSFORD – The Bowling Green boys bowling team came out strong the first game, and Eastwood finished with
one of the top six-game Baker totals.
However, it was not enough for either on Monday to advance to the state finals.
Eastwood finished fourth in the district that advanced two teams, BG was fifth.
Coldwater won the team title with 4,150 pins. Wapakoneta also advanced with a total of 4,087. St. Henry
was third at 3,896, with the two Wood County teams at 3,884 and 3,838, respectively.
BG was in second place after the first game and had the highest third game (935) in the 18-team field at
Interstate Lanes. The first game of 1,012 was one of only six 1,000-plus games shot in the tournament.
However, the Bobcats struggled in the second game and in the Baker games.
The Eagles climbed to fourth place with the second high Baker total of 1,133, including top efforts of
223 and 217.
The other Wood County team in the field, Rossford, finished in eighth place at 3,772.
Jay Young, Eagles’ coach, and Bill Wammes, the Bobcat coach, were both disappointed with their team’s
performance. Each team had won their respective league titles and the coaches hoped for better results.
Both Young and Wammes noted the volume of missed spares by the bowlers.
Justin Reitz, first-year coach at Rossford, was pleased with his team’s performance, noting "They
did better than expected."
Anthony Kennard of Wapakoneta rolled the high individual series of 726, with games of 242, 254 and 230.
Chandler Stevens of Archbold also broke 700, totaling 715 on the strength of a 289 game. Stevens and
Tyler Deters of Ottawa-Glandorf, at 653, will also compete in the state finals as the top individuals
from non-advancing teams.
The Bulldogs’ Austin Reynolds was the top county bowler with games of 208 and 223 in his 611 set, which
was 13th among more than 110 bowlers.
John Przybylski and Kyle Waynick led the Eagles with 606 and 599, respectively. Przybylski had high games
of 206 and 202; with Waynick rolled a 216. Ryan Chesser and Juan Ybanes led the Bobcat effort with 594
and 593, respectively. Chesser had a 203 high, and Ybanes rolled a 223. All four of those bowlers made
the top 20 in the field.
Other top efforts for Bowling Green included Cameron Walter, 209, 558, and Nick Jenne, 557. Anthony
McCoy, 208, 556 and Cory Zalesak, 217, 552, aided the Rossford effort. Derek Rucki had a 536, and Tommy
Blanchard, 532, for Eastwood.
